Fitness Stations for Bendwood Park
Many of the area parks and hiking paths have fitness or exercise stations for patrons. At the February Civic Association meeting, the idea was presented to the Board of Directors of adding such stations to Bendwood Park. Funding would be by private donations, a concept that was used successfully to secure additional play equipment and park benches in 2007. The Board approved this idea, with these details:
- Two fitness stations would be located in the park: one at the Pinerock sidewalk entrance to the tennis courts, and one at the northwest sidewalk entrance from Barryknoll.
- The cost is $600 and donations are tax deductible through the Houston Parks Board.
- We are looking for two donors, and their names would be engraved on brass plates attached to the equipment.

The FVCA Website
Fonn Villas has a website, www.fonnvillas.org, and it has lots of useful information, forms, and links. Sample items include Deed Restrictions (if you are curious about restrictions on keeping poultry in your backyard), Architectural Guidelines, and the history of Fonn Villas.
Super Neighborhood News
Fonn Villas is part of a Super Neighborhood, and that group is starting to be a primary way our neighborhood works with the City of Houston. For this reason, reading the minutes of the Super Neighborhood meetings can be a good way of keeping up with municipal activities that directly affect Fonn Villas. The minutes are posted on the website, www.memorialsn.org.
Water Coming to Bendwood’s North Side
The next time you walk or drive along the north side of Bendwood Park, look next to the tennis courts and you'll see a new water fountain installed. While there has been a water fountain by the playground for many years, this is the first time water will be available on the north side of the park. Tennis players, rejoice and drink up!
Credit for this fountain of refreshment goes to Jack Long, who has been pushing the City of Houston to get the work completed since last November.
Library Plant and Book Festival
Here’s a chance to replace some of your frozen plants, add some good reads to your library, buy a gift card from a local business, and support your local library, all at once. The Spring Branch Memorial Library will have a Plant and Book Festival on March 25th and 26th. The library is located at 930 Corbindale, off Piney Point. Sweet Tomatoes will serve refreshments.
