Newsletter - September 2011
Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 10:39PM Directory – changes requested
Every year, usually in January, a new edition of the Fonn Villas Directory is published. This handy booklet has the names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of all your Fonn Villas neighbors.
But the quality of the directory is only as good as the information that people supply. We depend on folks submitting changes as their information changes.
So, please take a moment to look at your families’ entry in the Directory. If anything needs to change, please contact Russ Calhoun at russcalhoun@gmail.com.
The Drought and Fonn Villas
From Jack Long: The drought continues to be bad news, but there is some good news here. When the normal spring rains failed to materialize, it became evident that the association’s re-landscaping of the planter beds around the small playground would need a lot of hand watering.
A faithful group of volunteers have been hand watering the beds and 15 young trees in the area since last April, including the new trees in the northwest corner of the park. They need to be recognized: Bob Atkinson, Ben Chambers, Lon Kelley, and Jack Long. Additionally, Tim Mattingly has recently stepped forward to assist watering, using his truck and trailer equipped with storage barrels.
The Attingham hedge is also showing signs of severe die-back. There are a few critics who don’t like the hedge. Nevertheless, it is the defining “green” boundary for the northeast side of the subdivision, providing aesthetics and security for the residents. Without the hedge, does anyone want to look at only wood fences in various states of disrepair? We think not; the hedge should be preserved to the greatest extent practicable.
Please consider this a direct appeal to the adjacent property owners (11) for them to increase watering their side yards to minimize further losses. Suggestion: for maximum efficiency, place a soaker hose against the fence and water for 2 – 3 hours.
About those Fitness Stations . . .
More from Jack Long: The latest word from the Houston Parks Board is that fitness station will be built; this month perhaps, but don’t hold your breath! Between contractor rain(!) delays and multiple problems with the manufacturer, the project has turned into a comedy of errors.
The good news here is that the delays have afforded the opportunity to change the facility border from used rail ties to natural stone. We extend a “thank you” to Vic and Nancy Condrey for generously donating excess limestone from their new house for the fitness station.

Residents with odd-numbered addresses can water on Saturdays and Wednesdays, between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 10 a.m. and between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
National Night Out
Texas celebrates National Night Out in October these days and this year the celebration will take place on Tuesday, October 4. The event is a great chance to meet new neighbors and mingle with familiar ones with local law enforcement on sight and treats and prizes for the children.
Please mark your calendars now for this Fonn Villas tradition! Our neighborhood has a history of turning out for this event.
