Some items on the agenda:
• Discussion of repairing the metal fence at the neighborhood entrance at Attingham and Barryknoll
• Fonn Villas stickers for cars
To get a copy of the complete agenda, please sign up for the official Fonn Villas email list (details below).

NEW ARCHITECTURAL GUIDELINES
At the last FVCA Board meeting, new ACC guidelines were finally approved. If you are looking to make any exterior modifications to your house, or perhaps build a new house, you may want to read the guidelines, which are on the Fonn Villas website.
Many thanks to everyone who provided valuable input during this lengthy process.

ELECTIONS COMING UP – PLEASE VOTE!
On Saturday, May 12th, Spring Branch ISD will be holding its School Board Election. All Fonn Villas residents will be voting at Memorial Middle School. Positions 2, 3 and 4 will be on the ballot. Check the Spring Branch ISD website for more information: SpringBranchISD.com.
Also, on Tuesday, May 29th, the Harris County Republican Party will be holding its Primary Election. The polling place has not yet been set. If you have any questions, contact your Republican Precinct Chair Eric Waligura at 713-594-3994.

IF YOU HAVE A DOG . . .
From the City of Houston website: “Dogs and cats may not ‘run at large’ in Houston. ‘Running at large’ means going on public or private property without the owner or another person having direct physical control of the animal. An animal on a leash is considered to be under direct physical control of a person. When animals are not on a leash they must be otherwise restrained, either behind a fence or in some other enclosure that will prevent their escape.”
This law applies within Bendwood Park as well, so if you take your dog for a walk or run in the park, please keep him/her on a leash at all times.
Finally, please pick up after your dog as we try to keep Bendwood Park beautiful and free of the doggie droppings.

A NOTE FROM THE CONSTABLE
The Houston Mobility Patrol has been in the neighborhoods lately writing parking tickets. The tickets have been for Parking on the Wrong Side of the Road (parked facing traffic), parking too close to a traffic control device (Stop sign), parking more than 18 inches from curb, blocking a Fire hydrant and blocking a driveway. Please watch where and how you park to avoid these costly tickets.

MOSQUITO CONTROL
With the rain we’ve had in the first four months of the year, it looks like we may have a bumper crop of mosquitoes this summer. With that in mind, here is some wisdom from Jim Kelley, longtime Fonn Villas resident and pest management guru: The key to avoiding mosquitoes is to eliminate the standing water areas where they breed. This includes overfilled flowerpots, clogged rain gutters, stagnant water in birdbaths, and underground drains. Get rid of that stagnant water, and you go a long way towards getting rid of these flying pests.

DIRECTORY NEWS
From Diane Donovan: By now your block representative (or helpful neighbor!) has delivered your 2012 Fonn Villas Directory to you and collected your $5 donation for the book. If you do not have yours, please contact your block representative. Every effort is made to ensure that they are accurate, but we depend on you to help us fix any errors and keep it updated.
Block representatives: when you are satisfied that everyone on your street who wants a directory has one, please give any undelivered books to Ollie.

A Plea from the Chairman of the Architectural Standards Committee

On the 9th of March I did an inspection tour of the subdivision and found trash bags at 45 home and trash barrels at 17 homes exposed to the street. Most of these were second offenders, which requires under our procedures a certified letter signed by the FVCA President to be sent to each homeowner. At $5.00 (round numbers) per letter, it would have cost the Civic Association over $200.00 for me to do this.

Please neighbors, keep all trash bags and Trash/Recycle Barrels out of sight from the street. The only time they can be visible from the street is the night before pickup. The Trash Barrel requirement is in our Restrictions and cannot be waived. Tell your yard man (if appropriate) to place the trash bags behind your fence or at least out of sight from the street when the work on the yard is completed. Also if you have a neighbor who needs a little assistance, please just give a hand.

For everyone's information, a third letter covering a violation of the Guidelines and/or Restriction is also signed by the FVCA President and sent certified mail. If there is a fourth violation, it is turned over to the Association's lawyer for legal action. The lawyer's cost is then billed to the homeowner. All because trash bags/Trash/Recycle Barrels were not put away!!!

Please dear neighbors, keep your trash bags and Trash/Recycle Barrels out of sight from the street. We have a beautiful Subdivision and we want to keep it that way.

Respectfully, Dick Sundt

Some time apart

Many residents keep their outside trash bins right next to their outside recycling bins. That’s great; it’s nice to keep those bins together. But some time apart is helpful, too: Every other week on Monday morning, the City of Houston Solid Waste division comes by and picks up both recycling and normal trash. They do this using an automated grabber that grabs the trash or recycling bin and dumps the contents into the truck. It has recently come to our attention that some residents are putting their Trash bins and Recycling bins right next to each other in the street. This makes it very hard for the automated grabber to pick up the desired bin. Please set them at least three feet from each other to make things easier for the driver of the truck.

And when the bins are empty

Please remember that Fonn Villas neighborhood guidelines call for storing your trash and recycling bins so that they are not visible from the street. This keeps our neighborhood looking clean and orderly.

Flag damage at bendwood park

Jack Long reports: The flag and flagpole in the park have been vandalized. This has happened in the past, and has been the work of area teenagers.

The top of the pole and pulley hardware may have been damaged. The extent of damage cannot be determined without a close examination. We must arrange with the City Parks Department to get a high lift truck to the scene for inspection and repair. If we have to replace the assembly at the top of the pole, it will cost us at least $300.

Bendwood park closes at 11 p.m. daily. If you see anyone in the park after that time, please call the constable so that the park can be cleared.

Email List – Sign up now!

New Architectural Guidelines

Fonn Villas has architectural guidelines to maintain our property values and keep our neighborhood looking attractive. All homeowners when making changes to the exterior of their homes must follow these guidelines. Periodically, these guidelines are changed as necessary.

Over the last six months the Architectural Standards Committee, led by Dick Sundt, has updated our architectural guidelines to reflect needed changes, including state laws made in the 2011 legislative session. The new draft guidelines have been posted to the Fonn Villas website. They can be found in the resources section.

Over the next several months the Fonn Villas Civic Association Board will be debating and approving some version of these guidelines. This process will begin with the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors on February 6th. We encourage all Fonn Villas residents to review these guidelines and send any feedback to any FVCA Board member. Please try to get your comments to the Board several days prior to this meeting.

Betty Stockton writes: The Bastrop County Wild Fires caused devastating losses to a lot of people. During the fires, there were incidents of rescued people, rescued pets and entire structures saved by the people serving in the voluntary fire departments. My sister and I (she lives in the area) recently visited Heart of the Pines Volunteer Fire Department, P O Box 98,Smithville, TX 78957 located off Highway 71 between Bastrop and Smithville. We took items there for those fire fighters who had lost their own homes and also noticed how used and worn their equipment became during the fires. They are trying to replace and upgrade the equipment as much as possible. These fire fighters will continue to be called on, especially while the drought conditions persist. The experiences and stories out of the Bastrop area are about dedicated people who could use a lot of community support. So if you are looking for a worthy cause, consider the voluntary fire fighters and their fire houses.

News - October 2011

NEXT FVCA MEETING - October 3
