Wanted: YOU for Fonn Villas Block Captain

The Fonn Villas Civic Association is looking for individuals willing to serve as a Block Captain for the last few months of 2025 and all of 2026. Fonn Villas has had Block Captains (a representative for each block in the neighborhood) for decades but the program went inactive during COVID. We're now restarting it!

Below, please find the current streets where we need Block Captains for the 2025-2026 year:

Attingham Drive Barryknoll Lane East Barryknoll Lane West Bendwood Drive Hallie Drive North KImberley Lane Lornmead Drive Pebblebrook Drive East Pebblebrook Drive West Pinerock Lane Rocky Meadow Drive West Taylorcrest Road East Trail Hollow Drive East Trail Hollow Drive West Val Lena Drive Vindon Drive

The responsibilities are not much more than what you are likely already doing simply by being a good neighbor. Generally speaking, the role of a Block Captain is:

  • Being the primary communication lead for their block. This includes being responsible for ensuring eveyone on your block is receiving the information contained in th FVCA newsletter, email blasts, etc.. We learned during the directory project that preferences vary widely for receiving important information about FV activities. Some people use the website, others are on Facebook only, others would benefit from paper communication. The Block Captain can ensure that everyone on their block has access to the FV information shared via our website, GroupMe, Facebook, and email blasts in the way they are most comfortable receiving it.

  • Main resource for notifying the Fonn Villas Welcome chair when someone moves in and out of your block. This helps promote community in our neighborhood by ensuring that a welcome visit is scheduled with our new reisdents, that directory information will be updated for someone moving in or out. Currently, Barbara Smith is the Welcome chair for our neighborhood.

  • Assist with ad hoc items that may arise. From time to time, there are activites where help is needed, such as with surveys and directory updates every few years. One example that readily comes to mind is finding a few volunteers for our Summer 2026 parties held at the pool--a Block Captain can volunteer for that role or can get together some neighbors to provide group support.

Block Captains are asked to serve for one year (this 1st "term" being just a bit longer) and then identify their successor for the next year.

For blocks where no volunteers reach out, Barbara Smith and I coordinate with each of the residents on that block until a Block Captain is found. We understand that being asked to volunteer for yet another thing seems like a big ask, but the BOD will make every effort possible to not make the role burdensome.

If you are interested in serving or are willing serve as a Block Captain through the end of 2026, please reach out to Barbara Smith by November 16th. Barbara Smith has graciously volunteered to coordinate the restart of our Block Captain program and can provide further details if you are interested. We are trying to have all block captains in place by early December so that they can be available for the January 2026 BOD election if needed.

It is our hope that our neighbors will consider doing this to help out the neighborhood--we live in a wonderful little pocket of Houston and that is largely due to neighbors like you making it a friendly place to live. Continued thanks for your time and efforts with the neighborhood to those who volunteer their time. I know we all have many commitments and that our families come first and foremost, so I appreciate you taking some of your precious free time to do so.

Sincerely,
Katie Bernard Eisterhold
2025-2026 FVCA President
